Words of Chairman

Words of Chairman

As the year of 2013 is closing and a new year drawing near, I am happy to see the successful publication of the Annual of the Sino-Indonesia Cultural and Economic Association (SICEA).
Thanks for the support of the directors and members, I was honored to be the Chairman of SICEA
in January, 2013. Later, we were glad to know Mr. Arief Fadillah was appointed as the Representative of Indonesian Economic and Trade Office to Taipei in mid-October this year. Let me show my earnest welcome to him on behalf of SICEA. And I expect the bilateral cultural interaction and economic cooperation would be strengthened.
According to the latest report, Indonesia was the 11th largest import source to Taiwan, whereas Taiwan
ranked the 12th to Indonesia in 2012. As for January to July, 2013, total trade value reached US$333.7 billion, up 0.8% from the same period of 2012. It is highly expected that the total trade amount for the whole year will notch higher.
It’s definitely no doubt that Indonesia plays a leading role among the ASEAN countries in terms of its land,
market and natural resources. Accompanying with its continuous economic growth, and a series of positive policies have been released from the government, there would be increasing investment & cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan. Taiwan has ranked as the 9th foreign investment source to Indonesia. As the Foxconn’s investment plan is undergoing, we will see further investment in Indonesia from Taiwan.
Taiwan has been investing in Indonesia  on  such  industries  as  mineral,  machinery,  electronics,  rubber and plastics, textile, etc. However, with its enormous domestic demand, increasing skilled labor, Indonesia serves as an ideal stepping-stone for Taiwan to access the booming ASEAN market. In order to promote the bilateral economic and trade relationship, we are planning to cooperate with the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office to Taipei to organize the visit tour on bilateral trade and investment.
In light  of the increasing  Indonesian  residents  in  Taiwan,  we  would  like to continue to serve  as  a bridge role between Sino-Indonesian cultures, striving not only to enhance our service to them, but also to introduce Indonesian culture to Taiwan community. We expect for more and diversified events on Indonesian culture and cuisine would be held next year. It is our belief that bilateral cultural exchange will be a firm basis to contribute to further economic, trade and investment cooperation.
Last but not least, let me thank all the editing staff for their effort to make this annual such a success, and let us put our highest hope in this ever-prosperous association. I would also like to wish you Happy New Year and every success in your future endeavors.
